CLOSE CALL - Sunday afternoon a hard shower passed over this city. For about 19 minutes, the rain fell in torrents, followed by hail which soon covered ground. For a few moments after the confusion of the hail storm, electricity seemed to be rampant in the atmosphere. May Bagle was struck by lightning, the bolt entering the open door, tearing the shoe from her foot, and cutting a gash an inch wide in the sole of her foot, length wise. Postmaster Thompson and daughter Maggie received quite severe stocks, while A. M. White, Thos. McMahon and A. A. Hartson received lighter ones. Mrs. John Shanks also received one that left a welt on her foot. (Greenwood Gleaner)

Wilcox - A. Benedict and wife arrived at home yesterday.

T. H. Garvin is at work on the Catholic church at Loyal.

Wm. Rowe is putting the finishing touches on Elmer Redmonds’ house.
