A FRIGHTFUL ACCIDENT: One of the most shocking accidents to take place hereabouts for a long time occurred on Jas. Harmer’s farm about 8 miles west of this city, Thursday forenoon. Two young men, Theo. Wallum and Geo. Dewey, while operating a circular wood saw were so fearfully cut about their arms, chest and stomach that it is doubtful if they will recover. It is believed that the saw flew out of the arbor which broke loose from its fastening and struck the young men inflicting the terrible injuries. George Dewey was cut across both arms and the shoulders, and his chest badly gashed. Wallum, who it is believed cannot possibly recover, was cut terribly across his abdomen. The accident took place about 9 o’clock in the morning and a messenger was at once sent to this city for a physician. Dr. Krohn and Dr. Cole went out and did the best they could for the unfortunate men. Both report that the young men are very badly cut,. Dr. Cole stating that it is the worse case he has attended of that kind since the war. Wallum is aged only 17 years and Dewey about 30 years. Both are unmarried. The machine was running by steam power and it is supposed the power on was more that the saw could stand.
