Looker, William (22 Dec 1866 - 2 Feb 1923)

William Looker, a resident of the village (Withee, Clark County, Wis.) for the last four years, succumbed to cancer early Friday morning of last week, death coming at 1:30 a.m. He was a sufferer with this disease for the past year, and only a week before his death returned from the Mayo Brothers Hospital at Rochester, Minn., where he has gone to seek a cure.

Mr. Looker and family came to Withee four years ago from Richland Co., and settled on a farm at the south side of the village, where they have since made their home. He was an industrious man and the years that he lived there made a great many friends. He was a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church and was active in all of its work. He was 56 years, 1 month and 11 days old at the time of his death.

He leaves to mourn a wife and nine children., four sons and five daughters, Charles of Hayward, and Leslie of Rockton, Wis.; Cecil and Theron, Mrs. Nick Mertens, Mrs. Edwin Lange, Velna, Unita and Mary, all of Withee; besides three sisters, Mrs. Bell Wertz, Milwaukee; Mrs. Hattie Vieeland, Richland Center; Mrs. Corda Cable, Viola, Wis. Other attending the funeral were: Mrs. Charles Barthwaite, a sister-in-law; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Traveris, Rock Ridge, brother-in-law; and Freeman Bolledge, Richland Center.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, a short prayer taking place at the home at 1:30, and services at the Methodist Church, of which he was a member, at 2 o'clock, Rev. Grandy officiating. Interment took place in the Riverside Cemetery.

The bereaved family and relatives have the heartfelt sympathy in the loss of their husband and father of the entire community.
