Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the York Center Methodist church for Mrs. Bertha J. Lawrence, 87, who died Saturday, at the Clark county hospital in Owen, where she had been a patient for 50 years. The Rev. Alfred Attwood officiated. Burial was made in the York Center cemetery. Mrs. Lawrence, the former Bertha Gardner, was born September 22, 1871 in Quebec City, Canada. On August 26, 1895, she was married to Melvin Lawrence and following their marriage farmed in the town of York. She is survived by two children, Miss Beulah Lawrence of Madison and Lewis Lawrence of East Moline, Ill., and by three step-grandchildren. Funeral arrangements were made by the Georgas Funeral Home. Pallbearers were: Ed Voight, Vern Gardner, Harold Gardner, H. E. Catlin, Ed Pagelsdorf and Fred Heiking. Two hymns, "There Will Be No Night There" and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," were sung by Mrs. Elmer Keller and Mrs. Ed Voight, accompanied by Mrs. Milford Rowe. People from away here for the services were: Miss Beulah Lawrence, Madison; Lewis Lawrence, East Moline, Ill., Mr. & Mrs. Walter Jakobi, Mr. & Mrs. Horace Lawrence, and Mr. & Mrs. Lawrence Vandeberg, Marshfield; Mr. & Mrs. Fred Heiking, Mr. & Mrs. Rollie Benedict, Mr. & Mrs. Harold Gardner, Mr. & Mrs. Vern Gardner, Mr. & Mrs. H. E. Catlin, Mr. & Mrs. Ernest Hinkelmann, Loyal; George Mortimer, Dwight Graves, Ethel Graves, and Bert Hayden, Granton.
