Andersen, Katherine (15 OCT 1891 - 12 Augl 1947)

Resident of this community were shocked Tuesday morning when they learned that Mrs. Sam Andersen had succumbed to the effects of a stroke suffered Sunday evening, Aug. 10, 1947, at her home. Her health had been poor for the past several years, but she still was able to be about and enjoy her daily companionship with her family and friends. Her confinement to her bed at home had been only since suffering her stroke. She passed away at 12:33 a.m. Tuesday morning, Augl 12, at her home bordering the west city limits, with her husband and three children at her bedside with her at the time of her passing on to eternity.

Mrs. Sam Andersen, nee Katherine Jacobsen, was born on Oct. 15, 1891, at Jelling, Denmark, and was 55 years of age when she passed away. As a young lady of 22 years she came to America and lived at Minneapolis, Minn. for one year, until Jan. 24, 1914, at which time she was united in marriage to Sam Andersen at Withee, Clark County, Wis. She had been a resident of this community ever since, having resided here for the past 34 years, during which time she and her family lived on three different farms, all within a one mile radius of their present home. At various times they lived on the farm now known as the Haire farm, between Owen and Withee, and the Peterson farm, but for the past 27 years have made their home on their present farm in the town of Hixon.

Katherine Andersen will be long remembered by her many friends for the many thoughtful acts of kindness that she so generously rendered. In her home she was a meticulous housewife and provided her husband and children with a happy and wholesome home life. She was a devout Christian, being a member of the Nazareth (Danish) Lutheran Church at Withee, and an active member in its ladies aid society.

Among those who mourn her untimely passing are her husband, Sam, two daughters, Helga of Mauston, and Mrs. James (Agnes) Jones of Madison, and one son, Einar of Mauston, several grandchildren and two brothers, John Jacobsen, who resides in Denmark, and Peter, whose home is in Kenosha, but who is at present on a six month vacation trip to Denmark, and one sister, Marie Langhoff, who also resides in Denmark.

Funeral services were held this afternoon at two o'clock from the home, and at two-thirty o'clock from the Danish Lutheran Church. Burial was made in the church cemetery. Rev. L. C. Bundgaard officiated at the final rites.

Pallbearers were Andrew Olson, Sig Sorensen, Harvey Andersen, Gordon Andersen, Cliff Mikkelsen and Jess Bundesen.
