LUELLA M. BESTEL BURIED AT RIVERSIDE SATURDAY

Undoubtedly one of the oldest pioneer residents of this community, Mrs. Luella Mae Bestel was laid to rest in the Riverside cemetery Saturday, August 17th. Funeral services were conducted for her from the Griebenow Funeral Home and rad by Father Brockman of Abbotsford.

Pallbearers at the service were Josep Warns, John Greshner, Lionel Thibert, Theron Looker, Lawrence Munson and Cecil Looker.

Luella Mae Bestel, 71, had been a resident of the Town of Hixon for owver sixty years, having been born and raised on a homestead farm not over an eighth of a mile east of the plot where she was laid to rest in the Riverside cemetery. About fourteen years ago she left her farm home at Clark and moved to Milwaukee where she has been making her mome with her son Ted. At the time she passed away, when she succumbed to a heart attack in a Withee business place a week ago Wednesday, she was here on a two weeks visit at the home of her son Hiram at Clark.

Luella Mae Bestel, nee Luella Mae Dophner was born in the Town of Hixon on July 18, 1875. In May 1900 she was united to Theo. John Bestel at Withee. She was the mother of five children, four sons, Hiram of Withee, and Eugene. Ted and Perry, and one daughter, Mrs. Wm. Siebrecht, all of Milwaukee.

For more than twenty-five years she was an enthusiastic member of the Rebecca Lodge at Withee. Possessor of many fine qualities, she was an earnest worker and worked hard and long hours in her early life in the successful establishment of a farm which she and her husband made their life's occupation.

Her departure from this earth is mourned by her four sons and daughter, and a sister, Anna Mertens of Los Angeles, California, 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Her husband preceded her in death, passing away on May 5, 1928.

Relatives from away that attended the services Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. Perry Bestel, Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Bestel, and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Siebrecht, all of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Douphner of Eau Claire, and Mrs. J. M. Barraclaugh of Rio.
