Winscher, Gottlieb C. (13 Feb 1842 - 8 Apr 1916)

Gottlieb Christian Winscher was born Feb. 13, 1842, in Markerei-Brinitze, Kreis Kreuzbury, Oberschlesien, Germany. In the year 1868 he was united in holy matrimony to Miss Rosina Winscher, to which union were born seven children, four daughters and three sons. One daughter died at the age of five weeks.

He served in the war of 1866 between Germany and Austria, and in the war of 1870-71 between France and Germany, where he served as connoneer, returning with honors and being decorated with a medal by Kaiser Wilhelm IV. On the 28th of April, 1885, the family immigrated to America, where he took up a homestead near Lelana, Sauk Co., Wis., where they lived for sixteen years. In Dec 1901 they moved to the farm south of Humbird, Clark County, Wis., where they resided until his death, Saturday, April 8, 1916, at ten minutes of three, after a short illness of pneumonia, aged 74 years, 1 month and 26 days. There mourn his death, his wife; three sons, Charles and Gottlieb of St. Charles, Minn.; Fred of Humbird; three daughters, Mrs. Susan Hanusa of Houghtonburg, Ann of Indianapolis, Ind., Mrs. Emma Galster of South Alma. Five brothers and two sisters survive him; two brothers, William and Christian reside in Sheboygan, three brothers and one sister in Schlesien, Germany; one sister resides at Merrimac. Mr. Winscher is also survived by eighteen grandchildren.

Burial was Tuesday afternoon in the cemetery at Alma Center, following a brief service at the home and a service at the German Lutheran Church in that village. Those who came from a distance were: Miss Anna Winscher of Indianapolis, Ind., Gottlieb and Charles Winscher and family of St. Charles, Minn., Mrs. John Heimlich, Jr., sister of the deceased and her son Robert and daughter Emma, and Mrs. John Heimlich, sr., a cousin, all of Merrimac; Wm. Winscher, his brother, and Christian and Olga, a nephew and niece, of Sheboygan; and Mrs. Susan Terasa of Madison.
