Lloyd Helsten

Lloyd J. Helsten, 65, Spencer, died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2004, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Marshfield. Funeral services were at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Unity. The Rev. Timothy Duesenberg officiated. Pallbearers were Scott Pokallus, Matthew Schmidt, Jeremy Brown, Andy Derks, Rich "Rueben" Hohl, and Todd Rahm. Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Town of Brighton, Marathon County.

Lloyd J. Helsten was born Feb. 17, 1938, to Elmer and Hattie (nee Koch) Helsten. He started farming the family farm after he graduated from Spencer High School. He married Mattie Bainer on Feb. 14, 1976, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Spencer. His interests included being with his grandchildren, the outdoors, animals, boating, farming, 4-wheeling, watching the Green Bay Packers, and playing sheepshead. He was a former 4-H leader, an active member of Unity's Trinity Lutheran Church, and he and his father furnished Christmas trees for teh church for more than 50 years.

Survivors include his wife, Mattie Helsten; one son, Lester (Patti) Bainer, Spencer; two grandchildren, Mackenzie Bainer and Kyler Bainer, both of Spencer; one brother, Robert (Audrey) Helsten, Spencer; one sister, Jean (Karl) Kroeplin, Oshkosh; one step-sister, Caroline (Frank) Veserat, Madison; and nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; one sister, Joan Helsten; one step- brother, Victor Krogness; and one step-sister, Helen Bandura.

Community Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
