Hartman, Henry (19 APR 1844 - 22 Augl 1917)

The remains of Henry Hartman, an old-time resident of Humbird, Clark County, Wis., were brought here from Coweta, Okla., Monday for burial. Funeral services were held at the M. E. Church on Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock and were attended by many of the old friends and acquaintances of the deceased. Rev. J. K. Peckham conducted the services. Burial was in the mentor Cemetery, where a daughter, Emma, was buried a number of years ago.

The deceased was born in Germany, April 19, 1844, and died at Coweta, Okla., Aug. 22, 1917, aged 73 years, 4 months and 3 days. He came to this country when a young man and settled in these parts. Here he was married in 1870 to Miss Katherine Harris, who with seven children, five sons and two daughters, survive him. The sons are Joseph of Bellingham, Wash., Henry, Frank, George and Oscar of Coweta, Okla. The daughters are Mrs. Henry Hauer of Humbird, and Miss Maude of Coweta. All of the sons and daughters, were present at the funeral services, excepting Joseph and Frank.

Mr. Hartman lived on a farm in the town of Cleveland, Jackson Co., for many years, finally selling the farm and other property here and moving to Oklahoma. He was a blacksmith by trade and conducted a shop in this village for about twenty years, being assisted in the business by his son Joseph. He was a man of many friends and the fact that he has always been highly spoken of by his friends and acquaintances in this section exemplifies the soundness of his character and integrity. For a number of years Mr. Hartman has been in poor health, but his courage never failed him and he never complained. He moved with his family to Oklahoma about fourteen years ago, where they engaged in farming, which occupation the sons still follow.
