Wilson, Alvira (20 MAY 1848 - 10 Augl 1918)

Mrs. Orin Wilson, another of the rapidly thinning ranks of early settlers of this vicinity (Humbird, Clark County, Wis.), and one whose life history is closely interwoven with that of the social and religious affairs of Humbird, has answered the final summons of the Grim Reaper.

Mrs. Wilson died at the home of her daughter Mrs. Mary Austin, in Ladysmith, on Aug. 10, 1918. She had attended a family reunion here on July 6, and expected to leave for California soon after. Her daughter, Mrs. Thomas Baker and husband, were leaving for the west also and are now in Portland. Mrs. Wilson was taken ill July 10, and passed away a month later of paralysis. Mr. Wilson died three years ago.

Miss Alvira Webster was a native of the state of New York, born on May 20, 1848. She spent her childhood days in the Empire state, and then came with her parents to Wisconsin, they being among the first settlers in these parts. On May 20, 1864, she was united in marriage with Mr. Orin Wilson, and their home was on the farm a mile northwest of the village until a few years ago. Eleven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Wilson, eight of whom survive. All were present at the funeral, excepting two, Mrs. Laura Baker and Sylvester.

Burial services were held at the M. E. Church in this village, of which the deceased was a member, Tuesday afternoon, Rev. J. W. Irish of Merrillan, preaching the sermon. Many old friends and acquaintances were in attendance and the business places were closed during the services in respect to her memory. The remains were interred in the Mentor Cemetery, beside those of her husband, two sons and a daughter, who had preceded her in death.

Relatives who were here to the funeral were Asa Wilson and wife, Chippewa Falls; Percy and Clyde Wilson, great Lakes Training Station; Elmer Austin and wife, Henry Wilson and wife, Ladysmith; O. A. Wilson and wife, Mrs. Brazoo, Escanaba, Mich.; J. R. Wilson and wife, Stevens Point; Emmett Webster, Granton; Jay Webster, wife and son, Menomonie; Mrs. Myrtie Jinks, Chippewa Falls; Mrs. Edith Henning, Eau Claire.
