Stuve, Hans Hovel (7 MARCH 1856 - 9 JULY 1930)

H. H. Stuve died at his farm south of the village about 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, after an illness which confined him to his bed the greater part of the time since last fall. He suffered a paralysis of his legs, which at times was accompanied by much discomfort. The day before the Fourth, a cerebral hemorrhage appeared, which saddened a family reunion planned for the Fourth, which all members of his family and brothers, John of York and Martin of Tindahl with their families, gathered to spend the day.

Mr. Stuve gradually weakened and became unconscious several hours before the end. His son Manley had returned to Chicago last Sunday and daughter Mrs. C. S. Martin and family returned to Woodruff Monday. Mr. Stuve's sister, Mrs. Gunderson of St. Paul was with the family at his bedside when he passed away.

Funeral services are to be held Saturday afternoon at the M. E. Church.

Stuve, Hans Hovel (7 MARCH 1856 - 9 JULY 1930)

Hans H. Stuve was born in Nordisinni, Norway March 7, 1856 and after an illness of six months died July 9, 1930 at his farm home adjoining the village of Humbird, Wis. aged 74 years, 4 months and 2 days.

At 21 years of age he moved with his parents from Norway to Northfield, Wis. and for a while spent his time attending high school at Humbird and working at Carter's Mill east of town.

In the spring of 1883 he went to Idaho and was engaged in the shingle mill business. He returned in 1889 and was married Oct. 19th to Miss Emma Jenkins. They returned west where with three brothers he operated a shingle mill, first at Clark's Fork and later at Harrison, Idaho.

Mr. Stuve and family came back to Humbird in 1904 remaining two years, when they again went to Idaho, locating on a homestead near Harrison. In 1911 he returned to Humbird with his family and located on the farm south of town, where they now reside.

Mr. Stuve leaves to mourn his death, his beloved wife Emma Jenkins Stuve, and their sorrowing children, six sons: Howell, Raymond, Ulysses and John of Humbird, Manley of Chicago and Martin of Greenwood; and three daughters: Mrs. Margaret Martin of Woodruff; Mrs. Almira Helwig of Marinette and Helen now taking nurse's training at Green Bay. There are 16 grandchildren.

He is survived by four brothers: Ed and Louis of New Plymouth, Idaho; Martin of the town of Cleveland, John of Northfield and two sisters: Mrs. Mattie Gilbertson of St. Paul; and Mrs. Hattie Norgaard of Sandpoint, Idaho. One brother Gilbert was killed in a ship yard at Portland, Oregon during the war.

The funeral was held at the M. E. Church Saturday afternoon with the Rev. E. A. Weaver officiating and burial was in Mentor Cemetery. All of his family excepting Mrs. Martin were present at the services. Other relatives present were: John Stuve and family of Northfield, Martin Stuve and family of Cleveland; Mrs. Gilbertson, St. Paul; Mrs. Ida Stuve, Fairchild, Archie Dupont and family of Price; D. L. Davis and wife and son Evan and wife of Green Bay; H. V. Curtiss and son Ladysmith; Ed Erickson and wife and Mrs. Larson of Northfield.
