The Rev. Pius Leabel, C.P., of the Passionist Monastery, Sierra Madre, California is the director of the Preachers Workshop. Father Pius was born in Loyal and graduated from the Catholic school in Loyal in June 1913 and is a graduate of St. Lawrence College, Mt. Calvary. He obtained his training in Philosophy and Theology in St. Louis and Cincinnati. He received his Master's Degree at De Paul University, Chicago, has done post-graduate work at the University of Detroit, the University of Chicago, and Catholic University, Washington, D.C. He originated the first Workshops in the Los Angeles Archdiocese and has demonstrated Workshop techniques at both the Denver and Boston Conventions of the Homiletic Society and conducted Workshops last summer at Chicago, Mt. Angel, Oregon and Wichita, Kansas. A "preacher's preacher," Father Pius, for thirty consecutive years, has been teaching newly ordained priests and conducting a regular "Refresher Course" in preaching for the priests of the Western Province of the Passionate Fathers.

Father Pius will celebrate his 50th anniversary Mass in the Passionist Order on Sunday, at 8 a.m. August 4, at St. Anthony's Church, Loyal.
