Brown, Gordon V. (27 MAR 1917 - 4 SEP 2005)

Gordon Victor Brown, 88, Bergland, Mich., died Sunday, Sept.4, 2005, at his home. Visitation will be held on Friday, Sept. 23, from 3 p.m. until time of services at 4 p.m., at the Cane Funeral Home, Ontonagon. The Rev. Ted Trudgeon will officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Lawn Cemetery, Bergland.

Gordon Victor Brown was (born) on March 27, 1917, in Greenwood, to Bert and Elizabeth (nee Kruser) Brown. He attended Sawyer County Public Schools and graduated from the Sawyer County Middle School on May 22, 1931. He worked with the CCCs at Camp Brule Company 629 until 1938, and was employed by Edmond Finkle, Greenwood, as a truck driver until 1942. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during World War ll and served from Jan. 9, 1942 until Oct. 3, 1945, having received an honorable discharge as a Staff Sgt. During this time, he served in the European, African and Middle East theaters with the 1107th AAF BU Caribbean Command. He was awarded the EAME ribbon with four battle stars for participation in the Tunisian, Sicilian, Italian and French campaigns. He was again employed by the CCCs at Camp Brule Company 629 from 1945 until 1947. He moved to Bergland, and worked at the White River Timber Company as a truck driver until 1962. He was hired by the Bergland Community School in 1962, and served as head custodian and maintenance supervisor until his retirement in 1982. He married Margaret Vesel, Greenwood on July 4, 1946.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret; two sons, Rick (Robin) Brown, Oconomowoc, and Ron (Maggi) Brown, Bergland; one daughter, Sharon Parker, West Allis; one sister, Irene Kielcheski, Bergland; three grandchildren, Jessica, (Chris) Brown Kovala, Alex Gordon Brown, and Shane Parker, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Loren, Russell, Neil, Kermit, and Bert; and one sister, Maude.
