Christman, Caroline (8 NOV 1848 - 17 DEC 1932)

Mrs. B. Christman passed away at the family residence on Saturday, Dec. 17, at 3:30 A. M. at the age of 84 years, one month and 9 days, and was laid to rest in the family lot on Wednesday, December 21st, the Rev. Father Aurit officiating.

Mr. Christman preceded her in death on August 16, 1926.

Caroline Winterhalter was born November 8, 1848 in the town of Addison, Washington County. She was united in marriage to Balthasar Christman in the year of 1872 to which union nine children were born and grew to man and womanhood in this community, all of whom survive her. Also 22 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Christman came to this village in the year of 1892 and were prominent in building for the welfare of this community.

Mrs. Christman’s beautiful character was portrayed in her daily life, a patient sufferer, devoted to her home and children and a kind neighbor beloved by all who knew her. While her death had been expected for some time, the hearts of the entire community were saddened when the sad message of Grandma Christman’s passing was learned.

The children are: Barbara Esselman, Elizabeth Kilbourn, Kate Emerson, Wisconsin Rapids; John Christman, Anna Allam Scott, Portland, Oregon; Caroline Andraska, Peter Christman and Joseph Christman.

Relatives from out of town who attended the funeral were: Mrs. Joseph Gass, a sister; 2 brothers, John Winterhalter and Joseph Winterhalter, a nephew Andrew Winterhalter, all of Hartford, Wis., Phillip Christman and wife of Tony, Wis,m Mrs. John Hauser, a niece, also of Tony, Mr. Art Held, a nephew of Chicago, Ill., Herman Esselman and Mrs. B. Esselman of Athens, Wis.

Pall bearers were: Albert Davel, A. J. Braun, Ed. Bertz, Carl Gerdes, Chas. Thums, George Weyhmueller. Mr. Walter Nichols took charge of funeral arrangements.
