Lucille Edith Gardner was born May 10, 1922, in Loyal, the daughter of Floyd and Margaret (Zuege) Gardner. Lucille and Donald Sommer were united in marriage on Dec. 20, 1939. Donald died Nov. 26, 1985. Together, the couple farmed in the town of Green Grove, and Lucille continued to farm for several years after her husband’s death. Four years ago, she moved to Madison to live with her daughter, which allowed her to spend quality time with her daughter, her daughter’s husband and all her grandchildren. Lucille always considered Green Grove to be her home. She loved it there. She appreciated all the cards and letters she received from "back home."

Lucille was an active member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and the Ladies Aid.

Lucille will be dearly missed by her daughter, Barbara (Dr. Gene) Wegner of Madison; four grandchildren, Shannon Wegner, Gina (Justin) Szajnuk, Sunny (Eric) Fitzgibbon and Chadwick Wegner, and one sister, Velma (Elmer) Gotter of Loyal.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Sommer; two brothers, Harold Gardner, and Vern Gardner, and one sister, Lorea Kolmansberger.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
