Cole, Mary (7 SEP 1832 - APR 1903)

(Spencer Correspondent - Marathon Co. Register)

The death of Mrs. Mary Cole occurred Monday morning at about 8 o’clock. She was afflicted with a cancer and has suffered more or less for a year or over but endured her affliction patiently and uncomplainingly. Mrs. Cole was born Sept 7, 1832 in Canada. She leaves to mourn her loss three daughters and four sons. Those who were present at the time of her death are: Mrs. LaGest OF Menasha; Mrs. John Paterson of Northville, Minn.; Anna Cole, who lived with her mother and cared for her thru her illness; Arthur Cole of Spencer; and Eugene Cole of Colby arrived a few hours after her death. The funeral occurred Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the M.E. Church. Many friends sympathize with the bereaved ones who have lost a gentle and loving mother.

This is my direct ancestor. Other records show that she was born 7 Sep. 1829; and died 30 Mar 1903. I have never been able to find out when and where Anna Cole died. Mrs. John Patterson is Mary Jane (the daughter of James and Mary) who was 1st married to Frank Felch and then to John Patterson. Mrs. LaGest is Rose (daughter of James and Mary). It is interesting the obit does not mention my great grandpa John Cole or his brothers Alfred or Joseph. My records show that 5 sons were living after 1903: Alfred, Arthur, Eugene, John, and Joseph; and 3 daughter: Rose, Mary Jane and Anna.] Jim Meissner,  jdmeissner@aol.com
