Eggebrecht, John (OCT 1832 - 26 SEP 1903)

A few weeks ago the Phonograph had the pleasure of recording the happy reunion of the seven Eggebrecht brothers, which occurred in Milwaukee. Today it becomes our sad duty to chronicle the death of John, the third son of that family, who died of pneumonia at his home in Milwaukee Saturday, Sept. 26, 1903, after a brief illness of but two days.

He was born in Germany, in the month of October 1832. In 1857 he came to America and settled in the city of Milwaukee. His first wife died in 1879, leaving him with a family of seven children. He was married again and lived with his second wife for over twenty-three years, when she died in February of this year

To his own household there were born fourteen children, eleven of whom are still living together with twenty grandchildren. Two sons and one daughter are living in California, the rest are living in Milwaukee.

The funeral was held in Milwaukee on Tuesday the 29th of September. There was present a great multitude of relatives and friends who thronged St. Peter’s Church to take a last look at the face of John.

He served as a corporal for over ten month in the war of the Rebellion in the 6th Wis. Regiment of Volunteers and was a member of the old Iron Brigade.
