Luchterhand, William (16 JUL 1840 - 15 JUN 1935)

William Luchterhand, a pioneer resident of Loyal, was born in Germany on the 16th day of July 1840. In 1868 he entered the United States and settled at Rubicon, Dodge County, Wisconsin.

In 1865 he entered the Holy estate of wedlock with Caroline Caraw, which union was blessed with eleven children, five sons and six daughters.

In 1870 he, with his family, moved to Clark County and settled on a farm north of Loyal, where they resided until 1909 when they took up their residence in the village of Loyal.

Throughout his life, he was a diligent industrious worker. And in spite of his old age, he was very active until about six month ago, having been confined to his bed for about the last six weeks.

But his praying and suffering had not been in vain for on Saturday morning at 7:30 he was quietly called by his Creator and Redeemer to a blessed death as we have all reason to believe, from this world of suffering to a better world, having attained the age of 94 years and eleven months.

His beloved wife and three daughters, namely: Anna, Mrs. William Sufficool; Gusta, Mrs. August Falk; and Ella, Mrs. George Schmidt, having preceded him into the Great Beyond.

The deceased now leaves to mourn his departure, five sons, namely: Julius and Edd of Unity, Frank and Albert of Loyal, and Ernest of Canada; and three daughters, Mrs. Minnie MaGee of Loyal, Mrs. Fred Schalan of Auburndale, and Mrs. Walter Limp of Bloomer, 33 grandchildren, 46 great-grandchildren; a brother and two sisters are still living in Germany, and a host of friends.

Those who attended the funeral from out of town were: Mr. and Mrs. Walter Limp and daughters Caroline and Norma, Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Berg, and Mr. and Mrs. Berg, Sr. all of Bloomer; Miss Dorothy Limp of Rochester; Miss Alma Luchterhand of Minneapolis; Mr. Emil Luchterhand of Chicago; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Schalan and son Harry, Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Shupe, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kuehlhold and family all of Auburndale; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Falk and family of Neillsville; Mr. Armand Falk, Mr. Raymond Falk of Juneau; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Falk and family of Beaver Dam; Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Luchterhand Jr., and family of Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Edward Greeler from near Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Luchterhand of Spokeville, and Mr. and Mrs. Reno Herdrich from north of town.
