Zickert, Terry J. (6 July 1948 - 31 March 1981)

Funeral services were held at the Gesche Funeral Home on Friday afternoon, April 3, for Terry J. Zickert age 32. Zickert a Neillsville native, but a rural Pittsville resident at the time of his death, was killed in a Wood County car-truck accident on March 31, 1981.

Terry was born on July 6, 1948, in Neillsville to Franklin L and Bernice M (Boon) Zickert. He received his education in the area, graduating from Neillsville High School in 1966. He then moved to Waukegan, IL where he was employed by Ocean Spray Cranberry Cooperative.

In April of 1969, he entered the U.S. Army serving later in Vietnam. In that action, he received a Purple Heart and a Vietnam citation for his efforts. He was discharged in April of 1971.

Prior to his leaving for Vietnam, he married Karen Glithero on December 19, 1969, in Waukegan ceremonies. Following Vietnam, Zickert returned to Waukegan where he was an owner-operator of a semi for Red-Way Carrier of Kenosha. In 1976, he moved to the Pittsville area where he was employed as a truck driver by Automated Products, Inc. of Marshfield.

Surviving him is his wife; a son, Troy at home; his parents of Neillsville; a grandmother, Mrs. Tina Boon, Neillsville; his mother-in-law, Mrs. Norma Glithero, Zion, IL; two sisters, Linda (Bryan) Thorson and Cindy Zickert, both of Neillsville; and three brothers, Frank of Neillsville, Ricky of La Crosse and Dennis of Morrison, IL.

The Rev. Gary Clark of the Neillsville United Church of Christ officiated at the Gesche Funeral Home services, with music, which included "Holy Lord" and "How Great Thou Art", offered by Larry Huebl. Burial was made in the Neillsville City Cemetery following military rites by the local National Guard firing squad.

Serving as pallbearers were Arthur Krause, Bertie Schultz, Larry Wren, Gary Kuechenmeister, Terry Smith, Perry Cossette and Larry Huebl.

Attending the services were friends and relatives from the Illinois cities of Zion, Waukegan, Paris, Chrisman, Gurnee and Morrison; and the Wisconsin cities of Kenosha, Marshall, Watertown, Sun Prairie, Marshfield, Wisconsin Rapids, Vesper, Spencer, Marathon, Neillsville, Pittsville, Christie, La Crosse and Fond du Lac; and from Dover, Minnesota.
