Hoesly, Mr./Mrs. Markus (Golden Anni. - 20 Oct. 1925)

Sunday, Oct. 20, Mr. and Mrs. Markus Hoesly Sr., celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of their marriage, at their home on State Street.

Mr. Hoesly was born at Glarus, Switzerland and when 9 years of age, came with his parents to Green County, Wisconsin, where he grew to manhood. Mrs. Hoesly, whose maiden name was Katherine Steussy, was born at New Glarus, in Green County. There they were married fifty years ago and went to farming. In April 1901 they moved to Clark County, settling on what was known as the old Dwyer farm in the town of Grant, which they had previously purchased. This remained their home for about 12 years, 22 years ago they moved to Neillsville and bought their present beautiful residence.

To Mr. and Mrs. Hoesly were born 9 children all of whom are living. They also have 11 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The children are Melchior, Baltz, Markus, Jr., Jack and Ann, all living here; Mrs. Minnie Kelch of Whitewater, Henry of Appleton, Amelia Hoesly of Brainerd, Minn., and John of Akron, Ohio. All of these except Baltz and John were at the family gathering Sunday, the married members of the family also being accompanied by their wives and children. There were also present a brother of Mrs. Hoesly, Henry Streussy and his wife, a sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kubly, all of New Glarus; two granddaughters and their husbands; Mr. and Mrs. Art Gall, Mr. and Mrs. Franklin Gall, and Melchoir, Jr. About 30 in all sat down to the bounteous dinner and also remained for supper.

Mr. and Mrs. Hoesly are people who are highly respected by all who know them. They brought into this community practical skill in the most advanced ideas in farming and dairying at a time when this was needed here.

Their many friends wish for them a long continuance of comfortable life.
