Martens, Emil (10 MAR 1886 - 28 DEC 1980)

Colby - Emil Martens, 94, died Sunday morning at Colonial House of Colby Nursing Home.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robin O. Fink is to officiate. Burial will be in Colby Memorial Cemetery.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Rux/Lulloff Funeral Home.

Mr. Martens was born March 10, 1886 in the Town of Unity to John and Catherine Martens. He was educated in Unity and took a cheese-making course at the University of Wisconsin- Madison.

He married Rose Domer Nov. 2, 1910 at Peace Lutheran Church, now St. John's in Riplinger, by the Rev. A.E. Kemmena. They farmed in the Town of Unity from 1911 until retiring in 1953, when they moved to Colby.

Mr. Martens was secretary and manager of Romeo Co-op Dairy Association many years. He served on the Town of Unity board, was president of the church in Riplinger many years and at the time of his death was affiliated with Zion Lutheran Church.

Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Helmuth (Pauline) Kuester of Gresham, Miss Caroline Martens and Mrs. Carl (Delores) Duwe, both of Sussex and Mrs. George (Bernice) Roth of Unity; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mrs. Matilda Burnett of Colby and Mrs. Margaret Fitchett and Mrs. Susan Neitzel, both of Milwaukee.

He was predeceased by his wife, one son John, three sisters and four brothers. He and his wife had celebrated their 65th Wedding Anniversary in 1975.

Memorials may be given to Zion Lutheran Church organ fund.
