Starkey, Gordon H. (21 July 1925 - Jan.1986)

Humbird - The body of Gordon H. Starkey, 60, Humbird, was found in his home around noon Friday by a representative of the nutrition center while delivering a noon meal. Death is believed to have occurred sometime the previous evening, authorities said. He had been in ill health and had also suffered from a heart condition.

There will be no services. The body will be cremated. Gesche Funeral Home, Neillsville, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Starkey was born July 21, 1925 in Richland Center, the son of Leo W. and Lealan (Withrow) Starkey. He attended schools in Richland Center. He served in the U. S. Marine Corps where he achieved the rank of private first class. He entered Aug. 7, 1943 and was discharged Dec 11, 1945, after serving in the Pacific. He was awarded many medals, including the Purple Heart.

After his discharge, he came to Central Wisconsin and farmed and worked as a milk hauler for several years. He moved to Milwaukee where he was employed for 15 years before moving to Pigeon Falls. He owned and operated a bar there for a few years. He was also employed by J. I. Case Co. in Racine for several years and six years ago moved to Humbird.

He was a member of Humbird American Legion.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Greg (Patricia) Smith, Milwaukee; two sons, Gary L., Milwaukee, and Gordon H. Jr., Orlando, Fla.; two sisters, Mrs. Frances Broker, Richland Center, and Mrs. Tilden (Beth) Moe, York; and three grandchildren.

He was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Ben and Bill, and a sister, Pat.
