Schraufnagel, Mary (21 APR 1858 - 9 DEC 1912)

Mrs. Mary Schraufnagel, one of the old settlers, died at her home in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., Wis., of sepsis stangulus herarane of hernia, aged 54 years, 7 months and 18 days.

Mary Weix was born April 21st, 1858 in the town of LeRoy, Dodge County, Wis.; on Sept. 6th, 1875, she was united in marriage to Henry Schraufnagel, which union was blessed with nine children, Joseph and Michael of Glidden, Wis.; Alois, Frank and Norbert of the town of Hull; Anna, Mrs. Theophilus Misslich, Keyesville, Wis.; Alvina, Leonard and Henry living at home.

In 1878 she moved with her husband to Colby, and purchased 160 acres of land six miles northeast of Colby, which was practically a wilderness then. With many hard days of labor the land was converted into a beautiful farm where she resided until her death.

On March 14th, 1895, he husband died, leaving her with eight children and one born shortly after his death. Besides her children, she leaves to mourn her death, her aged father, Laurenz Weix of this city, six sisters, six brothers and sixteen grandchildren.

The funeral takes place this morning from St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rev. H.J. Artmann officiating. Interment will take place in the Catholic Cemetery.
