Blankenheim, Mrs. Mat (1845? - 12 AUG 1913)

Mrs. Mat Blankenheim, formerly Mrs. Peter Kanter of this city and one of Marshfield’s early residents, died suddenly at her home in Jefferson, Wis. last Tuesday, Aug. 12th, 1913. The remains, accompanied by the husband and stepson, Nic Blankenheim of this city, and son Nic Kanter of Colby, Clark Co., Wis., were brought here Wednesday and were interred in the Catholic Cemetery, services conducted by Rev. Fr. Volz, being held from St. John’s Catholic Church at 8:30 o’clock.

Deceased was 68 years old at the time of her death and was born in Germany, although the greater part of her life was spent in this county, having resided in Marshfield 18 years, where with her husband, who preceded her in death, they reared a large family of children. Seven years ago she was married to the husband who still survives her, Mat Blankenheim of Jefferson. Besides her husband, she leaves to mourn her loss six sons and two daughters, one of whom is Mrs. Philip Stauss of this city, twenty-nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.

Among the relatives and friends present at the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Anton Kanter and daughter Myrtle of Marinette, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kanter of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Kanter of Mosinee, Mr. and Mrs. Nic Kanter and son Herbert of Colby, Mrs. John Findroff and Miss Mayme Stauss of Chicago, Mrs. John Nillis of Grand Rapids and Mr. and Mrs. Nick Baer, Mrs. Theo. Schaefer, Mrs. Louis Frane, John Philippi and Miss Kate Philippi of Colby. (Marshfield Herald)

Mr. and Mrs. Peter Kanter and children came to Colby, Oct. 8th, 1878, and resided on a farm in the town of Hull, Marathon Co., until about 18 years ago when they moved to Marshfield. Mr. Kanter died April 16th, 1902.
