Gordon, Edward A. (8 JUN 1854 - 3 APR 1936)

Edward A. Gordon was born in Syracuse, New York, June 8, 1854, and died at his home one mile west of Loyal, April 3, 1936 at 8 P.M., at the age of 81 years, 9 months and 25 days.

At the age of 24 years he came to Wisconsin and was married to Miss Elizabeth Rohrbacher at Hingham, Sheboygan County, October 3, 1880.

Soon after the birth of their oldest child, their only daughter, they came to Loyal and made their home on a little farm west of the village, on which farm were born their three sons. It was while living here that for several years. Mr. Gordon drove the stagecoach from Loyal to Neillsville, Wis. Those who remember those early days and the condition of the roads will appreciate the difficulty of that task and the effort which that duty was faithfully performed.

About 25 years ago Mr. Gordon and family moved to the farm where he lived until his death. Several weeks ago he was taken ill with pneumonia and although he was apparently recovering, complications arose which his frail strength was unable to withstand.

Mr. Gordon will be remembered as a quiet thoughtful man and a kind husband and father and will be missed by many neighbors and friends.

He is survived by his wife, one daughter Clydia, Mrs. Louie Radke, of Greenwood, three sons, Truman of Loyal, Orville of Greenwood, and Adlai of Loyal, and 10 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted Monday, April 6th, at 2 P.M. in the Methodist church, by Rev. A. N. Chapman. Burial was made in the Loyal Cemetery.

The pall bearers were: Mr. Frank Coryell, Mr. Frank Schultz, Mr. Wm. Habheggar, Mr. August Fricke, Mr. Albert Castner and Mr. Bert Brown. The flowers were in charge of Mrs. Albert Castner and Mrs. Frank Schultz.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Rohrbacher, Marshfield; Mr. and Mrs. Ed. Diethman, Unity; Mr. and Mrs. Louis Radke, Greenwood; Mrs. Arthur Etta, Thorp; Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Radke, Greenwood; Mrs. Emil Pagelsdorf, Greenwood; Mr. and Mrs. Frank Radke, Neillsville; Mr. and Mrs. Ellwood Diethman; Mr. and Mrs. Vern Diethman, Unity; and Mr. and Mrs. Harry Fecaker, Colby.
