Meyer, Gail Louise (Schmitt) (8 SEP 1965 - 13 JUN 2019)

Gail Louise Meyer passed away at her home shortly after midnight on Thursday, June 13, 2019, after a seven year battle with cancer. She is at peace now, but will be sadly missed by her family and many friends.

Gail was born on Sept. 8, 1965, the youngest daughter of Mark and Delores (Schreiner) Schmitt, in Marshfield, Wisconsin. She attended eight grades at St. Mary’s School, graduated from Colby High School and earned a one year degree from North Central Tech. She married Dean Meyer on July 16, 1994, at St. Bernard Catholic Church in Abbotsford.

Gail worked several years at Tombstone Pizza in Accounts Payable, until that department was outsourced. She later worked at Marathon Cheese until she had to leave due to health issues.
Gail was an inspiration to a lot of other cancer victims. From the time she was first diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, she told everyone she didn’t want any pity; she was going to fight this disease with everything she had. She went out of her way to comfort other people and helped to organize many fundraisers to assist them with their medical bills.

Gail loved to go camping and hunting, cheering on the Packers, sitting around a campfire with family and friends, growing and arranging flowers, cooking special recipes, doing glass etching and wood burning. She loved getting together with her friends and having a good time. She vowed to live life to the fullest, and that’s what she did as long as she was able to. She had a bucket list of things she wanted to do and places she wanted to see with her family; most of which she accomplished before God called her home.

Gail is survived by her husband, Dean; her daughter, Samantha Meyer, Medford; sons, Joseph Rudolph, Medford and Steven Augustiniac, Hartford; her mother, Delores, Colby; brothers, Jeffrey (Linda) Schmitt, Greenwood and James Schmitt, Colby; sisters, Kimberly (Gene) Hull, Joliet, Mont., Linette Hastie, Ankeny, Iowa, Laurie Aichele (Charlie Kuehn), Fall Creek, and Pamela Reynolds, Colby; her sister-in-law, Cheryl Meyer, Dorchester, brothers-in-law, Terry Meyer, Sheboygan, Doug (Cathy) Meyer, Dorchester, Kevin (Shelby) Meyer, Medford, Jay (Chris) Meyer, Lublin, and Rick Rinehart, Dorchester; and six grandchildren.

Gail was preceded in death by her father, Mark; her sister, Gwen; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Marilyn Meyer; sister-in-law, Denise Rinehart; and brothers-in-law, Brian Meyer, Conrad Aichele and Doug Hastie.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 22, at the Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford. Family and friends are welcome from 9 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.

Gail’s family would like to extend their gratitude to the nurses from Hope Hospice for the excellent care they gave her in her last days.

Online condolences can be made to www.maurinaschillingfuneralhome.com.
