Fommel, Jessie Mae (20 Jan. 1919 - 23 April 2006)

Jessie Mae Fommel of Neillsville, age 87, went to her heavenly home April 23, 2006 at the Memorial Medical Center surrounded by her family.

Jessie was born Jan. 20, 1919 in Christie, the sixth child of Claude and Charlottie (Asplin) Mills. After graduating from Neillsville High School she worked for Dr. Wink in Granton. While living in Granton, she met her beloved husband, Alfred Foemmel. They were united in marriage the first of June 1941 at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. The couple spent the majority of their married life raising their three children on the family farm in the Town of York, Neillsville, Wis. After retiring from the family farm in 1969 they moved to Marshfield. There Jessie started her second career as a nurse's aid at the convalescent center, in 1970, they moved back to Neillsville to purchase and manage the Moraine Motel. After Alfred's death, Jessie sold the motel. Over the next 16 years she was a nurse's aid at the Neillsville Memorial Nursing Home. Jessie had a profound empathy for the elderly. She spent most of her life living and working, in the Neillsville area which she considered to be her home. Jessie was a member of the Pine Valley Lutheran Church, Neillsville where she was actively involved in the Women's ELCA group. She enjoyed many interests throughout her life; 4-H and Sunday school leader while her children were growing, member and officer of Neillsville Senior Citizen Center, traveling internationally and nationally with friends. Her passion for helping others was eminent as she volunteered copious hours at the Neillsville Hospital Thrift Shop and was a devoted treasurer for many years. She also enjoyed playing cards with friends and family. Jessie's Christian faith was steadfast. Psalm 27 had a special meaning and guided her throughout her life. She shared God's word and love with those around her. She treasured the love and support of her family and returned that love to all of them.

Those left to cherish Jessie's memory are her children, Carol (Wendell) Hubing, of Granton; Wayne (Shirley) Foemmel, of Neillsville, Wis. She is further survived by her grandchildren, Scott (Margaret) Schlinsog, Granton; Londa (Dennis) Kuhen, Neillsville; Steve Hubing, of Granton; Katherine Hazelwood, of Neillsville; Robin Ulesich-Fommel, of Sacramento, CA; Eric Foemmel, of Los Angeles, CA; Rich(Lisa) Bolen, of Black River Falls; Christina Ragle, of Spokan, WA; and Jennifer(Nate) Mueller, of Marshfield. She is further survived by one sister, Lura Genteman, of Chili; and 23 great-grandchildren and eight great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alfred (1971), her parents, five brothers and one sister.

Funeral services for Jessie will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 29, at the Zion Lutheran Pine Valley Church, Neillsville, Wis. Pastor Keith Lueneberg will officiate.
