Christine "Tena" I Boon

Suicide ruled in local incident.

Clark County Coroner Robert Lulloff has ruled the death of a Neillsville woman to be a suicide. The body of Tena Boon, age 85, 1019 Hewett St., was found hanging from a length of clothesline on the back porch of her home by neighbors shortly after 11 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 1983.

Lulloff said the death appears to have occurred late Friday evening or early Saturday morning. A relative last saw Mrs. Boon at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. Boon had recently been concerned about her failing eyesight, according to the Neillsville Police Department report. The police found two notes left by Boon. A complete obituary follows this notice.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday afternoon, June 28, 1983 for Tena I Boon from the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, with the Rev. Howard Ott of the United Methodist Church of Neillsville officiating. Musical selections were provided by Janice Mayer and Iris Musil. Burial followed at the Neillsville City Cemetery with grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers, and they were Troy, David, Joe, Dennis, Rick, and Greg Zickert.

Mrs. Boon age 85 took her own life at her 1019 Hewett St. home in Neillsville on Saturday, June 25, 1983. She was born Christine I Janecek on April 6, 1898, in Hillsboro to Edward and Barbara (Stanic) Janecek. She received her education in that area and then moved to Neillsville where she worked at the Hamilton Hotel and for Nick Gangler.

On June 1, 1920, she was married to Peter H Boon in Greenwood ceremonies. The couple then farmed for many years in the Town of Weston. After they retired they moved into Neillsville, Wis.

Surviving are her two children, Bernice (Franklin) Zickert of Neillsville, and Merrill Boon of Waukegan, IL; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Preceding Tena in death was her husband Peter on February 14, 1971; a daughter, Gladys; two brothers; three sisters; and a grandson.

Attending the services from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. George Nachtigal, Yuba; Mrs. Ervin Smith and Lucie Smith, both of Hillsboro; Anges Coy Richland Center; Mr. and Mrs. Rick Zickert and son, of Desoto; Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Zickert and children, Morrison, IL; Karen and Troy Zickert, of Pittsville; Lila Stabnow and Alma Genett, both of Greenwood; Ann Weber, West Allis; and others from the Greenwood and Christie areas.
