Helander, Milo (25 Aug. 1910 - 13 April 1937)

Milo Helander was born August 25, 1910 on a farm near Tripoli, Wisconsin. His father died when he was 8 years old and the family moved to Duluth where they lived until the mother died in 1923. He came back to Tripoli with his older brother and was taken into the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wilding, who has been father and mother to him since that time.

In 1928 the Wildings moved back to Neillsville and Milo came with them. He joined the Congregation Church at Tripoli and has been one year at high school. He finished high school in Neillsville, Wis. He played on the basketball team of the school for two years in high school. He graduated from Teachers training in 1932 and taught the Christie school for three years and one year at the Grand View School. In the summer of 1936 he went to Milwaukee and worked in the Krause Milling Co. and liked it so well that he came home and resigned his school and went back to Milwaukee to work, and made his home with his brother William.

He always anxious to continue his education and went to Stevens Point to night school for one semester and to Milwaukee Normal for summer one year. While he was working all winter he had been going to the University Extension for two classes in the morning an then working from three in the afternoon until eleven at night.

He leaves four brothers, Arvid in the west, George of Chicago, Gus of Brantwood, Wis., and William of Milwaukee. There are also two nieces and the Wildings with whom he made his home.

He passed away at the hospital in Milwaukee at noon, April 13, 1937.

Funeral services were held from the Congregational Church Friday at 2 p.m. with Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating.

Friends from out of town attending the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Helander and daughters Patty and Marcia Rae, Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Tomke, Mr. and Mrs. J. S. Davis of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Mr. and Mrs. Gust Helander of Brantwood, Wis.; Geo. Helander, Chicago, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Winkler, Mrs. Lena Southard and Gerald Southard of Marshfield, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. John Gilbertson, Ferryville, Wis.; Mr. and Mrs. Boy McVey of La Crosse, Wisconsin.

Pallbearers were: Alvin Wendt, Donald Hughes, Francis Welsh, Wm. Wagner, Chet Seif, Wendell Palmer.

The Fairview school where Milo Helander taught for a one year was closed for the funeral.
