Dean, Ann M. (Nov. 3, 1820 - Feb. 1, 1906)

"DEATH OF EARLY RESIDENT AT NASONVILLE. Mrs. Ann M. Dean a well known and greatly beloved resident of Nasonville for the past forty-one years, passed away on Feb. 1, at the home of her son, Simpson H. Hart.

Mrs. Dean was born in LaFayette county, Pennsylvania, Nov. 3, 1820 and was therefore 85 years old on her last birthday. She was married to Moses J. Hart in 1834. They had eight children who grew to manhood and womanhood, viz:  S. B. Hart, J. G. Hart, Mrs. James Morrison, Mrs. Eliza Stuck and Mrs. Minerva Wood, all of Nasonville, LaFayette H. Hart of Minnesota and Mrs. Ruth A. Cheek of Tennesee, besides Mrs. Mary Mercer of Minocqua who died not long ago. Moses J. Hart, the first husband of the deceased, died in 1854 and she was married to Stephen Dean in 1860. They had one child, Mrs. Andrew Gottfrey of this city. The family settled in Nasonville at the close of the civil war.

The trip from Pennsylvania was made by railroad as far as New Lisbon, the nearest station, which was seventy miles to the south. The overland portion was made by ox team.

Mrs. Dean was widowed the second time in 1873, since which she has spent most of the time with her son and daughter. S. B. Hart and Mrs. A. Gottfrey. She always lived a good christian life, belonging to the Adventist church for a good many years. In the early days when a physician at times was impossible, Mrs. Dean's services were in great demand. Her first husband having been a physician, she possessed quite a knowledge of medicines. Her grandchildren number 42, great grand children 12, which with the eight children, if gathered together would make a party of 169 persons. The funeral last Sunday was largely attended, the services being conducted by the Rev. Siefert of Lindsey and Rev. Joe Brown of Marshfield. The pall bearers were:  Ross Morrison, Leander Morrison, Vernie Morrison, Ross Hart, Frank Hart and Gilbert Gottfrey grandsons of the deceased."
