Downer, Minnie (5 June 1866 - 1937)

Mrs. Minnie Downer, pioneer of the Granton community passed away Thursday night at the Granton Clinic where she had undergone an emergency operation the day previous.

Mrs. Downer, who had been in ill health for the past year, was confined to her bed the past six months at the home of her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Schoengarth. Prior to that time she had lived along at her home in the village.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Schoengarth home with the Rev. G. W. Longenecker, Neillsville officiating. Burial was made in the Windfall cemetery.

Deceased was born in the town of Grant on June 5, 1866, her maiden name being Minnie Davis. On June 5, 1884, her 18th birthday anniversary, she was married to Homer Downer, town of York, who preceded her in death 12 years ago.

Prominent in civic and church affairs, Mrs. Downer was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Ladies Aid Society.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. R. R. (Hazel) Rath, and Mrs. H. E. (Callie) Schoengarth, both of Granton, four brothers, Albert, Kearney and Henry Davis, all of this community and Romanzo of Tacoma, Wash.; a sister, Mrs. Albert (Altha) Mable, Granton and two granddaughters.
