Jischkowski, Arthur (10 MAY 1896 - 27 JUL 1914)

Arthur, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Jischkowski of the town of Green Grove, Clark Co., Wis., was drowned in the North Fork of the Popple River, near Atwood, Sunday afternoon. He left home about two o’clock and walked down to the river, about three quarters of a mile away, and when he reached the bridge he saw some other boys in the water so he pulled of his shoes and jumped in. He was in the water but a short time when he was taken with cramps and sank in twelve feet of water before the others could reach him. Dr. H.H. Christofferson was called, but as it was nearly two hours before the body was recovered it was impossible to resuscitate him.

Arthur was born in this city May 10th, 1896, and was 18 years, 2 months and 16 days of age. He moved with his parents onto the farm eight years ago, and was always a hard-working boy. He leaves to mourn his sad and untimely death his parents, three sisters and four brothers, Lizzie, Mrs. Garry Hughes of Mercer; Amelia, Mrs. Albert Sprague of St. Paul; Leopold, Paul, Richard, Edna and Herman, all of whom, including Mr. Hughes and Mr. Sprague, were present at the funeral, which was held at St. John’s Church in this city, Wednesday afternoon, and largely attended by sympathizing neighbors and friends.
