Steinwand, Julia (23 MAY 1872 - 16 OCT 1914)

Died, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield, Friday, Oct. 16th, 1914, of cancer of the bowels, Miss Julia, second daughter of Mrs. A. Steinwand, aged 41 years, 4 months and 23 days.

Deceased was born at Schoolhill, Manitowoc Co., May 23rd, 1872. She came with her parents to the town of Colby, Clark Co., Wis. in the year 1875, where she spent the remainder of her childhood. When Father J. Joerres was sent to this parish, she took charge of the parsonage as housekeeper. During the time intervening she remained with him up to the time of her death. After leaving Colby she was a Prairie du Chein, La Crosse and many other places until last May, when the Rev. took charge at Edson, near Boyd. She was taken to the hospital for treatment Sept. 17th.

Solemn Requiem Mass was celebrated with the visiting pastors participating in the following order: Celebrant, Rev. A.J. Joerres; Deacon, Rev. C. Nau; Sub-deacon, Rev. J. Neises; Master of Ceremonies, Rev. N. Brommershenkel; In Sanctuary, Rev. H.J. Artmann and Rev. A. Arenz. The ceremonies were very impressive and showed the love and esteem with which the deceased was held and was an appropriate tribute in recognition of her long service for the church. Julia was very well and favorably known to all the people of Colby and more especially with the old settlers. She was kind to all and always had much consideration of the comfort of others.

Those in attendance at the funeral from out of town, besides the Pastors, were Sister Solona O.S.F., and Miss Lizzie Gint of Edson; Miss Anna Wallersheim of Marshfield; Miss Caroline Eriel of Thorp; Will Garrity, son and daughter of Prairie du Chien.
