Montgomery, Emma (3 Sept. 1853 - 10 Sept. 1937)

Mrs. Edwin Montgomery, for many years a resident of this locality, passed away at the home of daughter, Mrs. Nellie Hickcox at Hudson, Sept. 10, after a brief illness due to a stroke of apoplexy. She had just passed the of 84.

Emma Reynolds was born at Hebron, Wis., Sept. 3, 1853. There she grew to womanhood and was married to Edwin Montgomery in 1873. They came to Clark County 54 years ago, and lived on a farm near Christie for a time. In 1899 they bought the LaFlesh farm near the fairgrounds, later selling this and buying a farm west of Black River. In 1915 they sold this farm and moved to Neillsville, Wis.

Mr. Montgomery died in October, 1927 and since then Mrs. Montgomery lived in the home here and with her children.

During her long residence here she had acquired many friends in every community in which she had lived. She was a good wife and mother and generous neighbor.

She is survived by two sons, Ralph, living in Pine Valley and Paul at Portland, Oregon, and one daughter Nellie, Mrs. O. I. Hickcox, Hudson, and one son Leonard and a daughter, Nettie, Mrs. Richard Dickinson, are deceased. She leaves also one brother, Delbert Reynolds of Rockford, Ill.

Funeral services were held on Monday at the Methodist Church, Rev. G. W. Longenecker officiating in the absence of the pastor, Rev. E. P. Stone.

Those from away who attended the funeral were Delbert Reynolds, Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Reynolds and Mrs. Neil Marshall of Hebron, Wis., three granddaughters, Nellie, Lucille and June of Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Hickcox and daughter Helen of Hudson, Mrs. Kate Crandall and daughter, Mrs. Will Word of Neopit, Wis.
