Machel, John (24 May 1856 - 31 Oct. 1937)

John Machel, who died Oct. 31 at Westmont, Ill., near Chicago, was for 21 years a resident of the town of Washburn and later of Grant. He came to Clark County from Chicago in 1897, where he and his family pioneered, and building thatched roof log buildings. He worked on the railroad and in the logging camps for Goddard, Curran & Tompkins. He developed a farm of 240 acres. In 1922 the family moved to Chicago.

Mr. Machel was born of German parents near Warsaw, Poland, May 24, 1856. He was married there to Louise Wegert in 1876, to which union 12 children were born, of whom nine survive, being Mrs. Lydia Drescher of the town of Grant, Augusta Evert of Batavia, Ill., Amelia McCarthy, Amanda, William and Nathaniel, Chicago; Rudolph, Edmonton, Can.; Robert, Oak Part, Ill., and Albert of Wichita Falls, Texas. The first wife died then years ago, and he was married again later. The funeral was held at Chicago Nov. 3 with burial at Elmhurst, Ill.

Hi Claudia, I hold the instrument by Christine Machel and Adam Hipke which Platkownica (Poland) in a German colony were. They had several children among other things, my grandfather Ephrahim Hipke.
