Hutton, Hyatt (21 FEB 1840 - 29 MAR 1916)

Hyatt Hutton, one of our oldest settlers, died at his home in this city (Colby, Clark Co., Wis.), at 1:55 Wednesday morning, March 29th, 1916, of cancer of the stomach, aged 76 years, 1 month and 8 days.

Hyatt Hutton was born in Oxford, Mich., on Feb. 21st, 1840, where he lived until grown to manhood. He enlisted in Co. I. 14th Michigan Infantry, Sept. 4th, 1863; was promoted to corporal sept. 3rd, 1864, and was mustered out of the service July 18th, 1865. In the spring of 1866 he came to Wisconsin, settling in the town of Buffalo, Marquette County, where Oct. 15, 1868, he was united in marriage to Miss Caroline E. Davis. He moved to Colby in the month of October 1873, and located on a homestead in the town of Hull (Marathon Co.), where he carved out for himself and family a beautiful farm home. He served his town on the town board, and was foremost in any move for the betterment of his town and his trading point - Colby. He was one of the charter members of the Isaac N. Earl Post, No. 112, G.A.R., and filled all the principal offices in that organization. He had a kind and pleasing disposition and was held in the highest esteem by old and young.

In 1908 he sold his farm and has since resided in this city. He is survived by his wife, son Fred E. and daughter, Mrs. Nettie M. Klieforth of this city, and by one brother, Charles, of Midland, Mich., and two sisters, Mrs. Jane Halstead and Mrs. Maria Halstead, of Owosso, Mich.

The funeral services will be held in the Immanuel Reform Church, at 2 o’clock Friday afternoon, Rev. R. R. Braddick officiating. Interment at Colby Cemetery.
