Boie, AlVera Mae (March 28, 1916 - April 12, 2006)

AlVera M. Boie, age 90, of Thorp, died at Oakbrook Health & Rehab on Wednesday, April 12, 2006.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2006 at St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church in Thorp. Fr. Keith Apfelbeck officiated and burial followed in St. Bernard’s Catholic Cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Kert Boie, Blake Boie, Erick Boie, Michael Boie, Benjamin Mueller, Brent Mueller, Randy Karaba and Steve Mohs.

AlVera Mae Hubbard was born on March 28, 1916 in Durand, WI, to Bert and Ruth (Catt) Hubbard. When she was a young child, her family moved to Thorp where she was raised and received her education at the Busy Bee country school, in the Town of Worden, and at Thorp High School. After completing her education, AlVera worked at the Soo Café, in Thorp, as a waitress, and also did domestic work for people in the area.

She was united in marriage to Harvey J. Boie on May 15, 1940 at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Stanley. They farmed in the Town of Worden, where they raised their family and lived until Harvey retired in 1977, at which time they built a home in Thorp. Her husband died on March 2, 1997. AlVera resided in her home until moving to Morgan Plaza in 2002. She later moved to Rosewood Villa in 2004 and then to Oakbrook Health and Rehab in June of 2005.

She was a member of St. Bernard-St. Hedwig Catholic Church, and was an active member of its P.C.C.W.; was a charter member of the Thorp Lioness Club; was a member of the Friendly Neighbors Homemakers Club for over 50 years; and was a Grey Lady at the Stanley Hospital for many years.

AlVera had many interests, but especially loved attending all of her grandchildren’s sporting events, as well as Thorp High School sporting events, where she was honored as the Thorp High School Fan of the Year. She also enjoyed baking, cooking, and crocheting Afghans for her family.

She will be sadly missed by her three sons: Rich (Carol) Boie of Thorp; Russ (Paulette) Boie of Pewaukee; Gary (Cindy) Boie of Cecil; eight grandchildren: Kay Boie (special friend Rick Hanson) and her son Blake; Kert (Jill) Boie and their children, Brittany, Morgan and Brooke; Kari (Tom) Mueller and their children, Benjamin and Brent; Kris (Randy) Karaba and their children, Bailey and Kole; Tracy Boie (fiancé Michael Schultz); Robin (Steve) Mohs and their son Maxwell; Eric Boie; Michael Boie, one sister, Beryl (Marc) Wagener of Muskego; one brother, Dean (Dolly) Hubbard of Thorp; two sisters-in-law, Alice Timlin of Stanley and Ella Hubbard of Thorp; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Harvey, one daughter, Diane Kay Boie in infancy, one brother, Allen Hubbard and one sister, Evelyn Cook.
