Wirkuty, Walter Robert (July 10, 1928 - August 20, 2006)

Walter Wirkuty, age 78, of Loyal, died Sunday, August 20, 2006 at his son’s residence on Co Hwy K in Loyal.

Walter Robert Wirkuty was born on July 10, 1928 in Pewaukee, WI. He is the son of Anton and May (Blood) Wirkuty, and attended Lincoln School in the Town of York and Loyal High School. He was united in marriage to Maureen Freezy on Dec. 8, 1951 in Neillsville, Wis. They farmed in Pittsville, Chili, Arpin, and Thorp areas and on Highway K in Neillsville, Wis. Since 1999 Walter and Maureen have owned and operated the Loyal Drive-in.

Walter was a member of the Loyal American Legion Post #175.

He is survived by his wife, Maureen; two sons, Justin (Suzette) Wirkuty, of Mobridge, S. D., and Doug (Melinda) Wirkuty, of Loyal; eight grandchildren, including step-grandchildren; two brothers, Leland (Gloria) Wirkuty and Alvin (Alice) Wirkuty, both of Neillsville, Wis.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Toni Jane; his parents; a brother Harold and various nephews and nieces.

A Graveside Service for Walter will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, August 24, 2006, at the Neillsville City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m., Wednesday at the Gesche Funeral Home in Neillsville, Wis. Military Rites will be accorded by the Loyal American Legion Post #175.

The Gesche Funeral Home is assisting Walter’s family with funeral arrangements.
