Wolfrum, Virginia (1923 - 4 NOV 1931)

Another life was claimed in an automobile accident on Highway 29, late Wednesday afternoon, when Virginia Wolfrum, the eight year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wolfrum was struck by a passing automobile in front of the residence of C.L. Johnson, at the east side of the city (Owen, Clark Co., Wis.).

The child had been playing with children in that neighborhood, and when in the act of crossing the street, a large sedan driven by William Rittenhouse of Withee approached from the east. At that moment one of her playmates called to her, and she stopped in front of the oncoming car. Mr. Rittenhouse, seeing the danger of hitting the child, applied his brakes and the car headed for the side of the raod, running into the ditch. The child being struck and knocked to the pavement, and when picked up by Mr. Rittenhouse was unconscious.

The accident is one of several that has occurred on the highway in the past few months, and each time has brought sorrow to the loved one. Mr. Rittenhouse who is suffering from the shock is now confined to his home, while he did all that was possible to avoid the accident.

Funeral services will be held for the child Saturday afternoon from the Congregational Church, Rev. W.P. Powell officiating, and burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. Wolfrum have the heartfelt sympathy of the entire community in the loss of their daughter.
