Laura Peterson Rice, the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Pete Peterson, passed away very suddenly from a heart attack at her home at Bismark, N.D., on Tuesday, Dec. 1. She is a sister of Mrs. Chas. Peterson and Edwin Peterson of Midway and was born March 29, 1878 on the old homestead now owned by Edwin. She was united in marriage to James T. Rice of Minneapolis in 1902, where they lived and continued in the hotel business until two years ago when they went to Dakota and were at present managing the Patterson Hotel at Bismark.

She leaves to mourn, besides her husband and two sisters, Mrs. John Harrany of Foster, Ore., and Mrs. Chas. Peterson of Curtiss, five brothers, Edwin, Lawrence of Peru, Ind., Anton of Westfir, Wash., Peter of Cle Elum, Wash., and Alfred of Oakland, Col.

The funeral will be held on Friday at Curtiss from the old home on the E.M. Peterson farm to the Norwegian Lutheran Church with burial in the family lot in the church Cemetery. The Rev. W.L. Anderson will officiate. The following who were childhood friends of the departed will be pallbearers: Frank Lupient, William Stevens, Frank Matthias, Fred Machlett, Ed Anderson and Robert Nissen.

The deceased was of a kind and cheerful disposition, a faithful Christian and the bereaved ones have the sympathy of the entire community.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon in the Norwegian Lutheran Church for Mrs. James T. Rice, 53, formerly Miss Laura Peterson of this community who died suddenly Dec. 1 at her home in Bismark, N.D. Burial was made in the family lot in the parish cemetery. The local pastor, the Rev. W.L. Anderson, officiated.

The church service was preceded by brief rites at the home of her brother, E.M. Peterson, who is on the old Peterson homestead, and to which the body was brought earlier this week.

Special music in the church included two songs, "Abide with Me" and "No Night There" by a choir consisting of Mrs. Theodore Thompson, Mrs. Minnie Green, John Lokken and Ralph Green, and a vocal solo, "Face to Face" by Miss Lorraine Lupient, with Eleanor Green as organist.

Pallbearers included the following school day friends of Mrs. Rice: Frank H. Matthias, Fred Machlett, E.J. Anderson and Robert Nissen. The floral tributes were exceptionally numerous and beautiful and were in charge of Ruth Ann Thompson, Margaret Bakke, Dorothy Pudlas, Jean and Elizabeth Phillips, and Irene Knight.

Mrs. Rice is survived by her husband, to whom she was married in March, 1902, and who has been manager of the Patterson Hotel in Bismark the past two years, prior to which he was similarly engaged in Minneapolis. She also leaves two sisters and five brothers.

Among those here for the funeral besides Mr. Rice, were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Peterson, Peru, Ind.; Mr. and Mrs. Burt Byer and son, Wayne, Mr. and Mrs. John Buck, Mrs. Edith Porter, Mrs. May Wallace and Mrs. C. Rodgers of Minneapolis.
