Zasoba, Lloyd (22 Mar 1918 - 30 DEC 1932)

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon from St. James Lutheran Church at Withee (Clark Co., Wis.) for Lloyd John Carl Zasoba, age 14 years and 9 months, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Zasoba, of that village. The Rev. E.L. Wendling, pastor of the church, officiating, and interment took place in Riverside Cemetery.

Lloyd Zasoba’s death resulted from an accident, when he fell from an automobile on which he was riding late Saturday afternoon. He, in company with Paddy Andersen and Gordon Thorson, had gone for a ride northwest of the village. Paddy Andersen was driving the car, and young Zasoba and Thorson were riding on the running boards, and in their play were crawling over the top of the car and onto the fenders. After they had driven a mile and a half north of the village they then proceeded west until they came to the Clark road, and then turned south to return to the village. Shortly after turning the corner Zasoba fell from the car striking his head on the ice at the side of the road, and his injuries were such that he did not regain consciousness. The boys took their injured companion to Owen and admitted him to the hospital, where after an examination it was disclosed that his injuries would prove fatal. He passed away that evening shortly after nine o’clock.

Lloyd Zasoba was one of the fine young men of Withee, and was held in the highest esteem by all who knew him. He was bright in his school work, popular among those of his age, and was adapted to making friends easily. In his passing he has left to mourn, his parents, two younger brothers, Eldon and Clinton, and his two chums, Paddy Andersen and Gordon Thorson.

At the final rites members of his confirmation class acted as pallbearers. They were Vernon Baehr, Edward Cizik, Verna Frederick, Gustav Lentz, Howard Rashska and Arthur Petke. The flower girls were Evelyn Madsen, Mildred Billington, Loraine Munson, Flora Bartholmay, Dorothy Albert, Beryl Funk and Dorothy Funk.

Those from away who came to attend the funeral were: Mr. and Mrs. Albert Douphner and son, Vernon, R.A. Schwan, W.L. Seyberth, H.B. Brendt and W.J. Killdahl, of Eau Claire, Mr. and Mrs. F.C. Conway, Frank Broeren, R.D. Stookey, James Mayarcki and Miss Margaret Crowley, Thorp; Mrs. Frank Price and Mrs. Nick Kleck, Cadott; the Misses Margaret and Ellen Groh, Milan; Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Baehr and sons, Arnold and Walter, William Westphal and son, Gilbert, and Nick Shewren of Dorchester, Wis.
