Zallar, John (14 Dec. 1878 - 1939)

John Zallar, Sr., 60, passed away at his home in Willard, following a heart attack. He was found dead by members of the family when they returned to the house after completing the morning chores.

Mr. Zallar was born in Jugo Slavia December 14, 1878. He came to America 34 years ago and has lived in Willard for the last 27 years. He owned and operated for about 12 years, the store which is now owned by Chas. Perko. The last 15 years of his life were spent on his farm in Willard.

He was married to Mrs. Anna Zevnik 33 years ago. He was active in community affairs and served as treasurer on the school board for nine years.

Survivors include the widow, Mrs. John Zallar, Sr., two sons, John, Jr.; and Joseph and one daughter, Evanka, Mrs. Elmer Severson, all of Willard; four step-children, Anton Zevnik of Madison, Frank Zevnik of Thorp, Mary (Mrs. Anton Debeve) of Willard, and Anna (Mrs. Frank Ziberl) of Akron, O.; 24 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 o’clock at the Holy Family Catholic church in Willard, Rev. Fr. Marcel Marinsek officiating at the mass.

The SNPJ, a Slovenian society, attended the funeral in a body.

Pallbearers were Louis Champa, Anton Merkun, Anton Zaupancic, Frank Prebil, Sr., Blaz Cobara, and Frank Klanchar, Sr., all members of SNPJ. Burial was made in the parish cemetery.

Those from out of town who attended the funeral include: Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Kotnik, and Harry Roe, Chicago, Ill., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Zevnik, Thorp and Mr. and Mrs. Anton Zevink and family, Madison.
