Miller, Lillie M. (16 JUL 1859 - 25 JUN 1926)

The remains of Mrs. Arthur G. Miller were brought from Durand last Sunday for burial, services being held at the Methodist Church at one o’clock in the afternoon. Brief services were held at the home of her son, Albert Miller, in Duran at 8:30 Sunday morning, conducted by Rev. W.T. Scott. Many relatives from Durand, Eau Claire, Augusta and Chetek were here to attend the services, and many old neighbors and friends from this vicinity were present. Rev. C.F. Klein preached the funeral sermon, speaking from a text found in II Corinthians, the fifth chapter, "For we know that if our earthy house of this tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens." The young ladies’ quartet sang, "Show Me the Way, My Shepherd," "In the Upper Garden," and "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere." A large number of beautiful floral wreaths and emblems, tributes from relatives and friends, were place about the casket and altar, and later covered the mound in the Houghtonburg Cemetery, which marked the final resting place of all that was mortal of this beloved woman.

Lillie M. Horel was born in the town of Lincoln, Eau Claire County, Wis., July 16, 1859, daughter of Richard and Sarah J. Schofield Horel. She grew to young womanhood there, and on Nov. 24, 1880, was united in marriage with Mr. Arthur G. Miller.

They resided on the farm south of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.) with Mr. Miller’s people for about two years, when they joined the great homesteaders influx to Dakota territory. Returning after five years’ residence in the territory, the farm was again their home, and remained such until 1905, when they moved into this village. Mr. and Mrs. Miller joined Mr. and Mrs. Chambers in the hotel at Fall Creek in 1909, and three years later both families went to Durand, and for ten years that city was home. In 1922, Mrs. Miller went with her husband to Independence, where they operated a hotel until last April. Failing in health, Mrs. Miller returned to Durand, where she passed away June 25, 1926, at the age of 66 years, 11 months and 9 days.

She is survived by her husband, and the three children which came to bless this union, Albert and Guy of Durand, and Mrs. Mae Mauer of Sparta, besides many near relatives and friends.

Mrs. Miller was a past worthy matron of Humbird Chapter No. 109, O.E.S., a member of the Farmers Life Insurance Association, and a member of the M.E. Church of Durand.
