NEILLSVILLE -- Sophie Weber, age 83, of Neillsville, died on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2006, at her home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Sophie at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2006, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Neillsville, Wis. The Very Rev. Woodrow H. Pace will officiate. Music will be provided by Ronnie Resong, organist; Rita Kuchenbecker, soloist; and St. Mary's Choir.

Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Gesche Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. There will also be visitation time one hour prior to the service Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Interment will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Serving as casket bearers will be her grandchildren, Jenny Hill, Wendy Weber, Joel Weber, Chris Weber, Dan Weber and April Weber.

Sophie Paula Weber was born on June 18, 1923, in Switzerland to Alois and Julia (Hunkeler) Wiederkehr. She completed her schooling in Switzerland. She married Hans Weber on Nov. 29, 1948, also in Switzerland. In 1966 they decided to follow their dream and bought a farm and moved their family to the United States, settling in the Neillsville area. Sophie loved her life here and enjoyed the hard work on the farm. She also loved to cook and garden, but her main love in life was taking care of her family and being a wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Sophie was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a member of St. Cecelia's Circle of the PCCW.

Sophie is survived by her husband, Hans of Neillsville; three sons, Hanspeter (Roberta) Weber of Kewaskum, Walter (Pam) Weber of Cottage Grove and Ralph (Karen) Weber of Neillsville; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Alois, Hans and Edward; and two sisters, Julia and Mary.
