Hodges, Hulda Maria (5 Nov. 1875 - 3 May 1906)

Last Thursday Mr. and Mrs. John Ringquist received a message from Chippewa Falls, conveying the bad news that their daughter, Mrs. J. R. Hodges had died at the St. Joseph’s Hospital, after undergoing an operation.

Hulda Marie Ringquist was born at Lindesburg, Sweden, Nov 5th, 1875. She removed to Des Moines, Iowa with her parents in 1880. A year later they came to Wisconsin, setting on the farm three miles south of this village, where she grew to womanhood. On April 2nd 1899 she was united in marriage to James R. Hodges, they removed the same year to Lake Nebagmon, where they resided until 1900 when they removed to Westboro, and engaged in farming.

This spring the condition of her health became such that it was decided to have an operation performed and she went to the above named hospital for that purpose, she was unable to withstand the shock and a few hours, after admitting to the knife she bid her husband farewell and sank into that long sweet sleep that knows no waking.

She is survived by a husband, parents, one sister, seven brothers, and a host of friends who extend to the bereaved family their heartfelt sympathy

The funeral was held from the M.E. Church Sunday afternoon and was largely attended by neighbors and friends. Rev W.J. James conducted the services after which the remains were laid to rest in the Unity cemetery.
