Niznik, Paul A., Sr. (July 5, 1918 - December 15, 2004)

Paul A. Niznik, Sr., of Withee, passed away on Wednesday, December 15, 2004, at Memorial Nursing and Rehab Center. Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 20, at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lublin with Father John Long officiating. Visitation was held from 4-8 p.m. on Sunday, December 19, at Hemer Funeral Home, Medford, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church Cemetery in Lublin.

Paul was born on July 5, 1918, in Chicago, IL. He attended Riverbank School System in Lublin. He married Mary A. Mis on October 5, 1940, at Holy Trinity Church in Lublin. In 1937, Paul started training as a land surveyor while being in the Civilian Conservation Corp. He and his family dairy farmed in the Town of Maplehurst for forty years. He also worked for the Taylor County Highway Department as a road crew foreman and surveyor for 35 years before retiring in 1980. After retiring, he enjoyed working on his hobby farm, making firewood, and restoring old tractors and farm machinery. He also enjoyed deer hunting.

Paul is survived by his wife: Mary; six sons: Paul Jr. (Nancy) of Medford, Robert (Roberta) of Plymouth, MN, Ronald (late Dawn) of Stetsonville, Gary of Eau Claire, Jerry (Kye) of Colorado Springs, CO, Dan (Pam) of Medford; four daughters: Bonnie (Steve) Pawelko of Rhinelander, Marlene (Dave) Rhyner of Stetsonville, Pauline (Lee) Williams of Owen, Sherrie (Carl) Knable of Puyallup, WA; sisters: Helen Rohland of Owen and Rose Skinner of Owen; 17 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers: Steve and William.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the American Cancer Society-Hope Lodge.
