Tews, Helen Louise (December 9, 1909 - September 26, 2006)

Helen Tews, age 96, of Neillsville, died Tuesday, September 26, 2006 at the Memorial Medical Center.

Helen Louise Tews was born on December 9, 1909 in Neillsville to Friedrich and Barbara (Brunner) Eggimann. She attended rural schools south of Neillsville, Wis. After her mother died she card for her father and helped on the farm. She married Arthur Tews on September 25, 1933 in Waukegan, IL. They started their new life together in Neillsville where Helen enjoyed being a housewife. She also went to work as the manager of the All Aboard Restaurant and then at the Farmer’s Union as the manager and cook. Later she took a job at Auto-Test working as a Timing Light Repair-person. She worked there for many years and retired at the age of 65.

Helen was known for her homemade doughnuts and her family would gather every Sunday at her home to enjoy them. She prepared and served Christmas dinner for her entire family every year until she was well into her 90’s and she volunteered at the Neillsville Senior Center until she was 93. Helen loved to play cards and was a member of St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church. Helen also gratefully took care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by her family and friends. We love you MOM.

She is survived by three daughters, Virginia Marg and Janice Suckow, both of Neillsville; and Luann (Dale) Haunschild, of Hudson; six grandchildren, Ken (Candy) Marg, Brad (Paula) Marg, Steve (Pam) Marg, Lynn (Ed) Crothers, Clay Haunschild and Lesley (Tim) Sans. She is further survived by nine great-grandchildren, Nichole Marg, Jennifer Marg, John Marg, Jake Marg, Nathan Marg, Leah Marg, Katelyn and Megan Crothers.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Tews; three brothers; six half sisters; two son-in-laws; and her special friend, Joe Poenlien.

A funeral service for Helen was held Friday, September 29, 2006, at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Neillsville, Wis. Pastor Timothy Biebert officiated. Providing music was Sharon Nemitz, organist and St. John’s Children’s Choir. Interment was in the Neillsville City Cemetery.

Serving as casket bearers were Kenneth Marg, Bradley7 Marg, Steven Marg, Clay Haunschild, Lesley Sans, Edward Crothers and Dale Haunschild.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.

The Gesche Funeral Home assisted Helen’s family with arrangements.
