Viola Victoria Rataiczyk was born on September 10, 1916 in Thorp, the daughter of Anton and Stella (Golomoski) Rataiczyk. She was raised in the Thorp area and educated at Pineland School. As a young woman she moved to Chicago, where she did domestic work and took typing classes in the evening. Viola moved back to Thorp and worked at Pabich’s grocery store for 18 years. She then worked as a receptionist at Dr. Slota’s dental office from 1965-1970 and then with Dr. Asbec from 1970-1974. Viola then worked at the Clark county Health Care Center, as a nurse’s aide, from 1974 until her retirement in 1984. She resided in Owen until her death. Viola had many interests, but especially enjoyed her nieces and nephews, gardening, flowers, birds, and baking.

She will be sadly missed by one sister, Helen Mateja of Prospect heights, IL; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Tony Rataiczyk and one sister, Marie Dobrzynski.

Thorp Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
