Miller, Arthur G. (7 JAN 1859 - 13 NOV 1929)

Arthur G. Miller was born on a farm one mile south of Humbird (Clark Co., Wis.), on Jan. 7, 1859, and passed away at the Durand Hospital, after a lingering illness, at 5:30 o’clock Wednesday morning, Nov. 13, 1929, aged 70 years, 10 months and 6 days.

He was a son of Charles and Rachel Miller, well known pioneer settlers of this section. The years of his childhood and youth were spent on the home farm, and on November 24th, 1880, he was united in marriage with Miss Lillah M. Horel of Augusta. The early years of their wedded life were spent on a homestead in Dakota territory, and after the boom days passed they returned to assume the management of the home farm, which remained the family’s home until 1906. After disposing of the farm they moved into the village, remaining her for a few years, they then moved to Fall Creek and entered into the hotel business, in company with Mr. and Mrs. Robert Chambers. In later years, excepting a short time at Independence, their home has been at Durand, where Mrs. Miller passed away on June 24, 1926.

To this union were born two sons, Albert and Guy, of Durand, and one daughter, Mrs. May Manore of Sparta, who at this time, mourn the loss of their father.

Mr. Miller was an active member of the Masonic order and the Eastern Star. He was also one of the first members of the Farmers Life Insurance Association.

Short funeral services were held Friday morning at the home of Albert Miller in Durand, after which the remains were brought here and services were held at the M.E. Church at 2:00 o’clock in the afternoon, Rev. E.A. Weaver officiating. Many relatives and friends were present. Burial was in Houghtonburg Cemetery, the Masonic rites being given by John Gruber. Many beautiful floral wreaths silently proclaimed the great esteem in which the deceased was held by many friends.
