--Houghton, Giles Mahlon (14 April 1916 - 1931)

Giles Mahlon Houghton, son of Mr. and Mrs. Mahlon Houghton, was born in town of Alma, Jackson county, Wis. April 14, 1916.

In his early years he was a frail child, though during the later years he enjoyed better health and was becoming a joy to his parents as well as a great help to them about the home. Since he reached school age he attended the Houghtonburg school.

On Wednesday of last week he was taken ill, and Friday was taken to the Sacred Heart hospital, Eau Claire, where an appendicitis operation was performed. Altho (although) his condition was very critical from the first, yet the best of hope for his recovery was held, even to the last day. Monday afternoon he became much worse, followed by his passing out of this life to his reward at the age of 15 years 4 months and 10 days.

He leaves to mourn his parents and one sister, Leona, also his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. I. C. Houghton ** and Mr. Jacob Matti, and many other relatives: and a host of young friends.

Funeral services were held at the home Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and at the Reformed church at 2:00 o’clock, Rev. V. D. Weidler officiating. Many beautiful floral tributes were an expression of sympathy from sorrowing friends. Interment was in Houghtonburg cemetery.
